SUMMER SCOUT CAMP 2011
We are already planning for this years summer camp 2011. We are excited to be going to the Bear Lake Aquatics Camp. We have some details that will be discussed in our meeting at the meeting on Jan 16. Also, here is a link to the permission forms for this camp.

We will be attending on July 4th - 9th. Here is the map of the camp:

The HEALTH FORM (Required) is HERE

Each boy will be responsible for paying $50 towards this camp. The first $25 was due on Feb 15. The next $25 will be due on the last week of April.

Finally, HERE is a list of merit badges and activities that the boys can sign up for at the camp.
(This list also shows who has paid and who has been registered)

We had a wonderful time at the Goshutes with Hawkwatch. Thanks to all those who participated. For the bird study merit badge, each boy needs to complete requirements 5 and 6. They need to:

5- Observe and be able to identify at least 20 species of wild birds. Prepare a field notebook, making a separate entry for each species, and record the following information from your field observations and other references.

1. Note the date and time.
2. Note the location and habitat.
3. Describe the bird's main feeding habitat and list two types of food that the bird is likely to eat.
4. Note whether the bird is a migrant or a summer, winter, or year-round resident of your area.

6- Explain the function of a bird's song. Be able to identify five of the 20 species in your field notebook by song or call alone. For each of these five species enter a description of the song or call, and note the behavior of the bird making the sound. Note why you think the bird was making the call or song that you heard.

We don't have another event planned to go view birds, but we could add one in October if the interest is there.

PERSONAL FITNESS MERIT BADGE
Thanks to all who came tonight. You guys all did GREAT tonight for the personal fitness merit badge. As I said, this merit badge takes a lot of effort - 12 weeks of it. So start tonight. You can download the worksheet and work on it right on your computer or print it off. Here is the link

Please take the time to measure yourselves as was discussed in requirement 6. And remember to do these activities in #6 every 2 weeks as part of your exercise plan.

Also, thanks to those who came the week prior to the city council meeting. You guys are so close to getting the communications merit badge. Here is your progress. The ones that say hw are the ones you need to complete as homework.

Communications merit badge. Remember, next week we will be working on more requirements.

Your homework is to write down a 5 minute talk that you can give next week. Or if you have talked in Church in the past 15 months, it counts if you write out the talk and show it to me.

The other part of the homework is to teach the skill that I approved on your paper and write down how well they learned.

The other part is to write a letter to the editor or make a flyer or web page for a group.

The final homework was to write the agenda for a home evening and conduct the meeting.

We will attend another public meeting within the next couple of months.

Thanks for a great campout and hike! You all did wonderful. I don't remember any complaints about anything. I think we all learned about what we want and don't want in our 72 hour kits and have a feel for what it is like to subside on our reserves. Moonshine Canyon is truly one of the beautiful creations of God.

Calendar for the next 4 months

Scout Unit leaders are now able to submit local and national tour permits electronically. This new system takes just four easy steps, and it will save the transportation and training information, so leaders can easily recall it for future permit applications.

All registered unit leaders will have access to Tour Permits from MyScouting, accessed on www.scouting.org

The MyScouting account verifies that the owner is a BSA leader associated with a unit. Leaders will only be able to submit tour permits for their unit(s). This authentication replaces the physical signatures on tour permit applications. Other unit leaders are notified via e-mail when an application is submitted and approved.

The system allows submission of both local and national applications.

Unit leaders enter all the necessary information for the tour, and rules specific to tour permits are applied. When appropriate, helpful messages will advise the leader about any missing information. Once the tour permit has been submitted, the council will evaluate and approve it or return it for further work. Online features allow easy entry of driver information for transportation and required training supervision.

There will be automatic notification at all appropriate steps in the process to the permit creator, the tour leader, and the assistant tour leader. The unit committee chair and unit leader will also receive e-mail notifications if they have MyScouting accounts.

The online Help document explains how to complete and submit permit applications to the council. Additionally, the Guide to Safe Scouting is available on the site for easy reference. Other documents, such as the BSA Transportation Guidelines and the Pledge of Performance can also be accessed from Tour Permits.

Authorized council staff members will review and process submitted applications. The tour permit creator receives a PDF version of the approved permit via e-mail. The approved permit PDF can also be obtained from Tour Permits in MyScouting.

As a reminder, local tour permit applications should be submitted two weeks before the tour and national applications at least one month before the tour start date.

We encourage all Scouting units from our council to use this new service to submit their local and national tour permit applications online.

The Utah National Parks Council Advancement Committee has recently written and approved the Life to Eagle standard operating procedure (SOP) document. This is an important step is improving the consistency of how Eagle Boards of Review and approval of Eagle projects are accomplished across the many districts in our council.

One of the key changes is the elimination of the Eagle Counselor program, effective January 1, 2009. Instead District Advancement Committees will be responsible for approving all Eagle projects before they begin.
